mosaic mirror {commision}

I was so thrilled when a customer from Chicago contacted me about a month ago to make a custom mirror for her half bathroom. She had just repainted and redecorated the room and wanted a special mirror that comprised all the colors of paint and artwork already in her bathroom. She wanted a mirror that would make a statement! Yall know how I love a special project!! I was so excited to get started!!

I found an assortment of glass tiles and smalti to match her colors and started arranging them. The entire step of the way I was sending her photos to make sure it was what she had envisioned.

 After lots of cutting and gluing...

And after grouting, sealing the back, attaching the wall mount and a signature it is complete and off to it's new home!!

watch out! {mosaic mirror}

  it's bright and it's fun!!

i had a blast mixing up all these colors! some pieces are opio tiles, some are from here or there, and the raised pieces are smalti!! so it's a fun collection of excitement :)

the entirety measures 16" x 16" and the mirror itself is 8" x 8"

i am either envisioning this in a room that really needs a pop! have one?

i'm so excited by it because it was made exclusively from Opio glass tiles from France!! i brought back the beautiful dark green ones that line the borders, which by the way have lovely gold flecks mixed into them. i have had the white tiles in the past and when i ran out was desperate for more. others just weren't the same... their white was so bright and stark and they shattered very easily when being cut. these are just the opposite!! they cut easily and smoothly and their color is amazing! once grouted the whites become so many different shades of white. I LOVE IT!! i'm so glad to have found a source!! :)

i have a few new mirrors in progress!! i'm SOOOO very excited for both of them :)

they are a little bit bigger {16" squared} and are going to be totally awesome.

she's done... {putting the pieces together, cont'd}

YEY!! my fireplace project is complete!! after being blocked off from my kids for, well, way too long we can finally appreciate it. it's much lighter in color than the dark reddish-brown boring tile that was there before. i think it adds interest and a breath of fresh air into the room. it's different and took me a few days to get used to, but around here we approve :)






and what really sent me into high speed work mode was that dang game 6 of the world series! i got to one point where i couldn't watch it anymore, but i could listen, so as i listened i scraped dried grout off of the tiles. it was a great way to calm my nerves :)

putting the pieces together... {new mosaics}

well hello there :)
and BEWARE crawling babies! my fireplace is under construction! here it is, almost half done.

i have had this project in my head for the last 4 years. i never knew exactly what it would look like so i waited. i'm loving the versatile neutral colors and the random glass piecing for this space. i grouted today and just love how that pulls all the pieces together. i will be working on the vertical portion soon and plan for the pieces to be a little different from below. will update with that. i'm loving it so far and loving working on it!

i try my best to keep up with my projects, and posting here, but if i'm slow in posting just know, i'm being inspired!

revisiting... {mosaics}

one of my biggest artistic passions is MOSAICS!!!
i know this because i don't mind spending hours upon hours working on one project to get it just perfect (to my standards). i'm so excited because i've been just itching to work on one and now i have a good enough idea for my next project! it'll be rather large though, so you won't see it for a while and i'll probably get a few other things up here in the meantime. but. it's going to be so fun!! in honor of it i thought i'd revisit some of my previous work to catch some of you up :)
